General meeting of the association

On 31st March 2001 took place the annual general meeting of the railway club "Freundeskreis Selketalbahn e.V.".
During the meeting the members of the association decided to give the money for the next periodical overhaul of locomotive 99 6102 "Fiffi".

2000/10/23 association

workingprogress on the museum

The works to build up the museums in the former field-forge (at station Gernrode) come to the end. During the last work input the floor covering was laid out. The flppring still must be glued. After this the exhibits can be put into the museum.
The car-box beside the museum was cleared out and tho old color was removed. On the next work input the car-body is to be painted.

2000/09/17 association

special travels

On Saturday 16th of September took place the traditional special travel "Bergwerkstour" (journey to mine).
In the morning a thunderstorm broke in the east-Harz. Due to the thunderstorm there was a power failure. Because Gernrode was also affected by it, coal for loco 99 6102 "Fiffi" should be partial loaded manualy.
In the train was a flat car, on which acriculture equipment and a lifesize horse of plastic stood.
At the arrival in Straßberg the sun shone and till return to AGernrode the weather was dry.
In the restaurant "Bergschänke" (mountain tavern) of Straßberg the travelers got a meal. After After the lunch three groups visited in different order the show mine "Grube Glasebach", the miners church, the scool museum and a wood carver.
Before the start of return there was a break with coffee and cake in the "Bergschänke".

The active members of ouer association had no time for recovery on Sunday. They had to work as travelling in the special train from Gernrode to Brocken and return.
The train consisted of three passenger cars and one baggage car with the kitchen. Those the steam locomotive 99 7232 had no problems to keep to shedule.
During the ride some times rain fell. On the peak of Brocken it was dry, windless and 13°C warm. Allthoug the view was not good, the about 120 travellers liked the journey.

2000/05/20 association

A house goes on journeys

Under the slogan specified above our work input on May 20th took place. The target was it to transfer a building from the station Alexisbad to the station Gernrode. The house was used in former times by the track workers.
Heiko Fricke had organized again everything in the best way - including food supply. Only the weather did not play quite. After continuous rains in the morning there were occasional only rarely rainstorms and a few sunbeams up to the evening.
As preparation door, windows, wall linings and other things had to be completely demounted in preceding work inputs. A sample lift up was executed. Only the framework construction with the roof should be transported.
In the course 8961 from Gernrode to Alexisbad locomotive 99 7236 brought the flat car SSm 99-04-76 loaded with construction material. As the first the little house received some reinforcements on the inside for the stabilization of the roof. In order to be able to set it on roles, two beams were under-built. Parallel to these work a runway leaned on sleepers developed out for connected beam. Only after the midday course at 13:20 o'clock from Harzgerode had arrived, the flat car could be load-fairly stationed, the little house could be lift up with hoists, roles put underneath and the house could rolled on the flat car. After protection of load (house and construction material) and shifting the car, the track from/to Harzgerode was free again. The check by the load master of the HSB could take place. Now still the foundation executed very durably from clay bricks and concrete had to be eliminated. After its arrival in Alexisbad locomotive 99 6001 put the flat car to the train of course 8967 and drove thereby at 16:35 o'clock to Gernrode. There the strange cart-load came on probably-keep and punctualy.
Unloading occurred after the same procedure as the loading. Before the little house had to be turned on the car around 90°. With the issuing of the building on its new foundation the successful work input ended.

Behind locomotive 99 6001 the flat car with the little house is incorporated into the passenger train. It begins the upward gradient to station Sternhaus Ramberg.

After the house of the car was turned around 90° it is rolled on its new stone base in the station Gernrode.

2000/11(18 line

Finish of biult in new gates

The built in of new gates for the locomotive shed in Gernrode has been finished on 17th November. The metal rollgates were painted green. because the old wooden gates were also green.

2000/10/25 line

new gates on the locomotive shed in Gernrode

Actually the locomotive shaed in Gernrode is to be equiped with new gates. The old gates are to small to satisfy to the rules of the professional co-operative.
The shed for the railcar and for the loco 99 6102 ("Fiffi") allready got a new woodden gate. The three big wooden gates will be replaced by metal rollgates. That's why the gable wall of the locomotiv shed must be modifyed. The workers have to find a good compromiss because the building is listed under a preservation order.

2000/04/15 line

business report 1999

In the business report of the HSB to the year 1999 a traffic increase in the Selketal was proven again. So the number of passengers arised by 3% and the income from ticket sales could be increased by 17% with continuous tariffs.

New "Steam-Shop" in Gernrode

In the station building of the HSB in Gernrode a new "Steam-Shop" was opened (information office, sale of tickets and souvenirs). The service space of the stations manager was reconstructed and the past sales room was closed.

2001/07/30 vehicles loco 99 6102 stored

On 30ty July took place a lot of special travels between Gernrode and Straßberg. The reason was that on 31st July the periodical boiler overhaul for loco 99 6102 was due and the loco must be stored. The special trains were pulled by loco 99 6102 and 99 6101 as well as by railcar NWE T3.

Some days ago loco 99 6001 has been repaired. The engine is back to Gernrode. It works in dayly sheduled service again.

2001/03/23 vehicles Deadline for loco 99 6001

On 14th April the periodical boiler overhaul for loco 99 6001 is due. The HSB wants to transfer the mashine to the maintenance shop Wernigerode with the aim to repair 99 6001 and to extend the deadline for the boiler one year.

2001/01/05 vehicles

Defects on the railcars

In the last time there are many defects of the new built railcars 187 016 - 187 019. That's why the main inspection of railcar 187 015 was constantly postponed. Now this railcar is also out of order.
During the period with snow the railcar 187 011 - used in the Selketal has had problems on steep tracks, when it drove as the first vehicle on the railway. For this reason the Harz Narrow-Gauge Railway company used instead of the railcar a course with diesel locomotive 199 871 and passenger cars at the last days of December 2000.
Steam locomotive 99 6001 stays even for washing in Wernigerode Westerntor. The Mallet-locomotive 99 5906 provides their service in the Selketal.

New built railcars put into service again

The railcars 187 016 - 187 019 are put in service again. On of this railcars operates on the "Selketalbahn" from Gernrode. Because of temporary shortage of railcars the prototype 187 015 was taken back from main revision. Now the main revision is resumed.

2000/09/19 vehicles

New built railcars stored

On 2000/09/04 was written that the railcars 187 016 - 187 019 are not avaiable at this time. The reason is not a defect but an order of the railway supervisor of the country Saxonia-Anhalt. After this railcars were used about one year one has found out that there is no attest of derailing security. The attest is necessary to put a railway vehicle into use. Now the derailing security has to be proved by theoretical calculation and practical experiments. The railcars can go back into passenger service after the attest is finished.

Mallet-loco 99 5906 back to Gernrode

Steam locomotive 99 6001 is used in sheduled services. The railcar 187 016 (new build in Halberstadt) ist stored in the locomotive shed of Gernrode because of a defect. The railcar-course a diesel locomotive ("Harz-camel" 199 871) drives.
On 2000/09/17 the steam loco 99 7232 (actually staitioned in Gernrode) draw our special train to/of mountain Brocken.
The Mallet-locomotive 99 5906 is back to Gernrode. On 2000/09/16 (Saturday) it operated with a special train of HSB between Gernrode and Hasselfelde. In Hasselfelde an other train (loco 99 5902 with four passenger cars of the oldtime-train) arrived.

Substitution of railcar train by diesel locomotive train

The new built railcars 187 016 to 020 are not available because of problems with the electrical facilities. The shuttle traffic with railcars between Nordhausen and Ilfeld must be handled by the old railcars 187 011 to 013. Therefore diesel locomotive 199 872 ("Harz-camel") drives the courses of railcar in the Selketal.
Mallet-locomotive 99 5906 still stays in the workshop Wernigerode Westerntor beause of damaged air pump. For this reason a locomotive of the class 9923-24 (locomotive 99 7232) works on the Selketalbahn.
